If it hasn't already, Story County will shortly be issuing a burn ban. There was a big fire by Story City yesterday, and with the winds and dry conditions, ending intentional outdoor fires is a good choice I think. Here is a statement from the National Weather Service. Sorry for the caps, that's how they do it.
DRY CONDITIONS WILL CONTINUE OVER THE REGION FOR THE NEXT 7 DAYS. WINDS
WILL ONCE AGAIN MIX OVER THE EAST TODAY...BUT ONLY TO 20 TO 30 MPH
AT TIMES. RELATIVE HUMIDITY WILL DROP TO NEAR 30% OVER THE REGION BY
THIS AFTERNOON. BURNING IS STILL DISCOURAGED DUE TO THE RELATIVELY DRY
CONDITIONS AND POTENTIAL FOR FIRE SPREADING IN WINDS OF 20 TO 30 MPH.
CONSULT THE INDIVIDUAL WIND FORECASTS FOR YOUR AREA BELOW.
